Raw panela sugar has a deep, earthy bittersweet flavor that improves tea, coffee or smoothies. Matt, our food editor, keeps it in his sugar bowl as his go-to sweetener. Try on a simple fruit salad--and its especially good with grapefruit. Panela is our go-to sweetener for Latin-style beans and salsas as well.
