Grown in the citrus groves of the Catania plain in Sicily, these semi-soft candied strips of lemon peel from Fratelli Sicilia make an ideal garnish for a traditional Italian dessert or cocktail. Or they can also be enjoyed on their own as an appetizing snack. We love the citrus-forward, clean flavor of this peel, which starts sweet and then hits with a welcome note of bitterness and tang. We also appreciate the texture—soft and moist—and relatively large 3-inch sized pieces, which make them easier to work with than most other commonly found harder candied peels.
Paternò, located just below Mount Etna in southeastern Sicily, is famed for its cultivation of citrus fruits like blood oranges, mandarins and lemons. Citrus is believed to grow in such abundance thanks to the fertile volcanic soil of the area.
