These textiles celebrate centuries of craftsmanship.
J. Catma supports artisans in India as they produce goods in small batches, so they can continue the tradition of their crafts—like block-printed floral patterns, which rose to prominence during the Mughal empire and are still popular in Rajasthan. Block printing is a painstaking process: Oftentimes, each block is carved by hand before it’s softened in oil. Once the fabric is prepared for printing, the blocks are dipped into dye and gentle pressed into the fabric to create a repeating pattern.
