What started as a gift to others, soon became a family business.
Rick McMillon had been making homemade enchilada sauce from fresh, local Hatch chiles for nearly his entire life. More recently, he, along with his wife, Carol, their children, and 15 grandchildren began giving jars of the sauce away to friends and family at Christmas each year. The sauce was so popular that friends were asking for it by the case instead of by the jar. As a result, Rick and Carol started The Fresh Chile Company to meet the growing demand.
