Grind spices and herbs on demand with this petite, sleek spice mill from CrushGrind. It’s equipped with their signature ceramic grinding mechanism that delivers an effortless, customizable grind on whole spices in just a few twists. (The ceramic parts are guaranteed for 25 years, too.) We see the Vaasa as a happy medium between a mortar and pestle and an electric spice grinder; the former is labor-intensive and can produce uneven results, while the latter turns everything to a fine powder regardless of what texture you’re going for. But this mill makes it easy to dial in your grind—simply twist the grinder clockwise for a finer output and counter-clockwise for a coarser one. Use it to quickly crush whole spices for a recipe or fill it with your favorite spice blend and set it on the table next to the salt and pepper. The clear glass base lets you see exactly what’s inside and how much is left. (And the base is dishwasher-safe for easy cleaning.)

To fill the spice mill, remove the cap and pour any whole spices you like into the glass base. Adjusting the grind coarseness is as simple as twisting the mechanism clockwise (for a finer grind) or counter-clockwise (for a coarser one). Swap in the lid for long-term storage.

The glass base/container is dishwasher-safe. To clean the grinding mechanism, unscrew the adjustment wheel, remove the inner ceramic cone and use a dry, stiff brush to clean the ceramic parts. If necessary, immerse the ceramic cone in warm water to dissolve any remaining residue. Allow all ceramic parts to dry for at least 24 hours before reassembling. To quickly switch between spices, run some coarse salt through the mill. This will remove spice residues and clean the ceramic parts.
