Milk Street Saya Knife Guard — Kitchin-kiji
Japanese kitchen knives are traditionally stored in wooden scabbards called sayas, which protect the blade—and your fingertips—from damage in a crowded drawer. We partnered with our knifemaker for a custom ash wood saya to be the perfect companion for our Kitchin-kiji™ Knife. The sturdy, durable and beautifully grained wood guard perfectly fits the blade (simply sliding on) and attaches securely via a simple wooden pin. The wood also helps wick away any moisture clinging to the blade, which prevents oxidation or rust.

The Toffee Merchant Salted Espresso Toffee
The best toffee we’ve tried comes from The Toffee Merchant, a small-batch, award-winning confectioner in Arizona that produces tender, crunchy toffee that won’t break a tooth. Unlike any other toffee we’ve tried, this thick slab breaks easily into flaky pieces. Cooked slowly and using the highest quality ingredients, their Salted Espresso Toffee packs a punch of coffee flavor into the sweet dark chocolate. Caramel complements buttery pecans and almonds, but just the right amount of espresso powder and a pinch of salt add surprising depth. Don’t be surprised if you go through a bag in a day. This stuff is that addictive.
Cera Bakeware Square Baker
Greasing your glass bakeware with butter, oil or spray is usually one of the first steps in a recipe—and more often than not, most baked goods still stick to the pan anyway. Not so with Cera bakeware, designed in Japan to be truly nonstick, without any need for extra greasing agents, flour or parchment. And it’s only available in the US at Milk Street. Made from ceramic-coated glass that is durable, easy to wash and completely nonstick, this square baker is the perfect vessel for baked goods, roasts, casseroles and more. Anything you cook in it will come out cleanly, without any fuss or mess. The frosted glass is also easy on the eyes, ensuring your dish can go seamlessly from oven to table.
Milk Street Wok Skimmer
When using a wok, mise en place isn’t just about your ingredients—it’s about your tools, too. Draining liquids and oils away quickly while stir-frying, frying or boiling requires sturdy but agile equipment with enough surface area to easily get under your ingredients, while keeping your hands at a safe distance. The right tools can make all the difference in how your dinner turns out.
Milk Street’s Wok Skimmer is custom-designed to work seamlessly with the Milk Street Hammered Wok. This well-built, stainless steel tool features the right handle length and bowl size for nimble and efficient use, unlike flimsy, poorly made tools that aren’t big or wide enough to be effective in a wok. It scoops, strains and drains effortlessly—and excels when used in tandem with the Milk Street Wok Spatula. The satin-finished steel is dishwasher-safe, rust-proof and nearly impervious to wear.
And despite its name, the Milk Street Wok Skimmer is terrific beyond the wok. Its uniquely perforated head makes it an ideal tool for lifting blanched vegetables or deep-fried foods out of hot water and red-hot oil. Or use it to strain delicate stuffed pastas, like tortellini or spaetzle, out of a simmering pot to avoid breaking them. It’s even great for skimming broths and stocks.
ITALO Acetaia Pedroni Traditional Balsamic Vinegar of Modena D.O.P.
One of the oldest artisan balsamic makers in the world, Acetaia Pedroni has been in the business since 1862. They make their Italo balsamic vinegar from start to finish in Modena, which earns the bottle the “Protected Designation of Origin” mark—a verification that it’s as high quality as it gets. Made only from pure, juicy trebbiano wine grapes, the vinegar is aged for a minimum of 12 years in oak and chestnut wood barrels, moving into smaller and smaller barrels as it ages to concentrate the flavor. The finished result is filled with complexity: rich, heady, sweet, earthy and tart with notes of raisins and umami. It’s thick and syrupy from years of evaporation and a natural sugar content, so it’s perfect for finishing the most special dishes, like risotto and meats, or drizzled over strawberries and cheese.
Fat Gold Blue California Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Mild and buttery, this batch of California-grown olive oil is a true team player—made from extra-delicate, early harvest arbequina and picual olives, it’s perfect for cooking and baking projects that require olive oil flavor in a supporting role. Grown and harvested in some of the best groves in northern California, the olives in this 2022 batch of oil offer tasting notes of fresh cream, dried flowers, walnut and ripe apple, for a fragrant, fruity, mellow blend with no pronounced pepperiness or spice. The bright green oil is made for everyday use as a cooking oil and a finisher; try it for sautéing produce, frying eggs, tossing with a salad or drizzling on pasta and finished dishes.
Regalis 18-Year Barrel-Aged Black Truffle Balsamic
This infused balsamic vinegar gets its earthy flavor and aroma from real Périgord black truffles, not artificial flavoring, for nuanced truffle notes that don’t overpower. Like all good balsamics from Modena, the balsamic capital of the world, the vinegar has a pleasant acidity and beautiful raisiny aroma—but 18 years of barrel aging gives it a rounded complexity and luxurious viscosity, achieved without any thickeners or preservatives. Save this extra-special vinegar as a finishing touch: It’s delightful for dipping or drizzling over bread, burrata, roasted vegetables or fruit, steak or caprese salad. (It makes a fabulous gift, too.)
Westmark Bottle Opener and Closer
Made from high-quality steel and silicone, this tool from German company Westmark pulls double-duty as a bottle opener and closer. Compact in design and easy to hold in your hand, use it first to open bottles and twist caps, then slide the bottom rubber back over your unfinished drink—it acts like a bottle stopper to create a tight seal. Our testers were blown away with how well the rubber bottom worked to keep drinks fizzy, even after long periods of time. After a week in the fridge with the Westmark covering it, our sparkling apple cider was still just as fizzy as the day it was opened.
Blake Hill Heirloom Apple Butter
To make their traditional apple butter, Blake Hill—maker of some of the best jams we’ve tried—simmer juicy, crisp heirloom apples in Vermont maple syrup until they break down into the creamiest butter. While many apple butters are all spice, this one leads with full, clean apple flavor: Maple syrup, brown sugar and cinnamon provide warm, toasty notes, but nothing overpowers the sweet-tart fruit. Simple ingredients, cooked slowly until we’re left with an elegant, not-too-sweet apple butter—that’s it. It’s excellent paired with sharp cheddar cheese, slathered on scones and toast or served with roasted pork or chicken.
Hakata Salt Moshio Saredoshio (Japanese Seaweed Salt)
Made from seawater and seaweed straight from the Seto Inland Sea, Hakata Salt’s Moshio “Saredoshio,” or Japanese seaweed salt, brings a distinct complexity that enhances the flavor of typical sea salt. It’s made using a traditional method, in which Hondawara variety seaweed is soaked in seawater, naturally thickened in salt fields under the sun, then boiled down into a fine, easily dissolvable salt. The minimal yet time-intensive process helps preserve each complex mineral, adding even more impact to the flavor of what is dried and harvested off of the seaweed. The salt imparts a combination of delicate bitterness and a punch of briny umami that clings to food nicely; use it to finish grilled fish, karaage (Japanese fried chicken), tofu and carpaccio, or add it to soup, pickles and sushi. Mix into dressings and marinades to boost savoriness, or sprinkle it over ice cream, cookies or muffins if you’re feeling extra adventurous.
Poterie Renault Conical Butter Pot
Though the region is best known for wine production, the Loire Valley of France also once contained a secret gem frozen in time: Poterie Renault. Dating back to 1847, the French pottery workshop was filled to the brim with stoneware pieces, all handcrafted from some of the richest and finest clay France has to offer. And while the factory shuttered its doors in 2016, it left behind a treasure trove of salt-glazed ceramics that have become collectible items. Included in that collection is the Conical Butter Pot, enjoy the ease of spreading room temperature butter when you store it in this traditional French pot.
Breville Immersion Blender
An immersion blender is like an extra hand in the kitchen, but some are clunkier and less effective than others in practice—yielding poorly blended soups, sauces and fatigued arms. But while testing several models in search of one worthy enough to take up space in the kitchen, we came across Breville’s rendition, which worked flawlessly for a faster, more powerful blending experience than its competitors. Weighing in at under four pounds, this ergonomic, handheld tool comes equipped with a bell-shaped non-scratch base and stainless steel blade designed to reduce suction and achieve a more thorough blend without spattering. Featuring 15 speed settings, a 6-foot power cord, an anti-slip mat, a 3-cup chopper bowl, a 5-cup mixing jug and a whisk attachment, the Breville Immersion Blender tackles soups, sauces, salad dressings, smoothies, purees and more with ease. Whether you’re adding it straight into your pot or a separate bowl, this efficient tool will stay consistent and speed up your work—and when you’re done, just give it a rinse in the sink.
Marukin Mentsuyu All-Purpose Noodle Sauce & Soup Base
Used widely across Japan as a standalone sauce, soup base and dressing for cold noodles, this umami-packed mentsuyu from Marukin needs no diluting. Unlike other similar products on the market, this full-flavored, complex sauce is completely ready to use—without adding any water. A blend of premium soy sauce and dashi broth, each high quality ingredient is sourced from Japan. Balancing both salty and sweet, each bite is smoky and briny without overpowering. With a variety of uses, we like it served alongside both hot or cold noodles, as a dipping sauce or as a broth. It also works well as a dipping sauce for tempura, as a base for other soups, subbed in for dressing, marinade, pickling liquid or splashed in as a flavor enhancer for egg dishes.
Ankarsrum Assistent Original Stand Mixer — Glossy Finish
Please allow up to two weeks for orders to process and ship from vendor
Stand mixers are one of the most versatile tools in the kitchen, yet most are clunky, inefficient and can’t handle larger portions of dough without rocking on the counter or speeding down substantially. But thanks to a bit of Swedish ingenuity, Ankarsrum has come up with a one-of-a-kind design that maximizes capability and stands up to hefty quantities of dough. Normal mixers have a bowl that doesn’t move and beaters that do move. The Ankarsrum has a stainless steel bowl that spins, while the blade, beaters and other attachments stay in place. No more stopping and starting your mixer to scrape the sides of the bowl your beater can’t reach. The spinning bowl results in more mixing power without overexerting the quiet, spiral gear shaft motor. That’s why it can easily accommodate heavier doughs (up to 11 pounds) and even has motor feedback to help regulate speed on its own.
Not making dough? Simply swap the stainless bowl for the included BPA-free 4-quart beater bowl (does not spin, comes with attached drive shaft) to mix, whisk and combine batters, cream butter and sugar, whip cream and frosting and more.
The Ankarsrum’s unique design offers a stable, low weight distribution, tremendous torque, infinitely variable speed and a timer for automatic shutoff. Plus, because there’s nothing blocking the top of the bowl, adding in ingredients while the mixer is on has never been easier. Even better? This mixer is several pounds lighter than your run-of-the-mill stand mixer and more low profile, making it easier to take in and out of storage for use. The entire set comes complete with the mixer motor base, a 7.4-quart stainless steel bowl, a 4-quart BPA-free whipping bowl, a dough roller, dough scraper, dough hook, proofing lid, spatula, double beater/whisks and cake beater whisks, as well as a starter guide and recipe book. Available in a variety of colors with a glossy finish.

Iwachu Cast-Iron Grill Pan
This grill pan from Iwachu is made to order from Nambu iron, a traditional Japanese cast ironware known for heat retention and durability that dates back over 400 years. The perfect companion for meat, chicken, fish, veggies, sandwiches and more, the pan is designed with a corrugated wave pattern on the bottom that leaves your burgers and grilled cheese with beautiful grill marks. Its compact, not-too-heavy size is just right for an at-home grilling experience, not too bulky like big cast iron griddles, and easy to use at any time, unlike a full-sized grill. And its natural cast iron construction makes it practically nonstick. Plus, the thoughtfully designed handle stays cool longer on the stove, so you can skip the potholder and still keep your hands safe when handling.
