Baharat—which means “spices” in Arabic—is an all-purpose blend of spices that’s been used in Middle Eastern cooking for centuries. Rumi’s salt-free blend has seven core spices from the Persian Gulf, including rich cumin and potent black pepper. Each spice tastes distinct and brings a well-rounded balance of savoriness, sweetness, heat and earthiness to just about any dish. Mix it in marinades or rubs for most meats; use as a base for soups, stews and yogurt sauces or season grains and vegetables, especially eggplant, cauliflower and potatoes. It even adds an unpredicted depth to desserts—our testers loved it in zucchini bread.
