We found the only spoon you’ll ever need in the kitchen: the Japanese-designed Gestura Slotted Kitchen Spoon. Acting as both a straining and serving utensil, the slotted spoon has 1) six perforations for quick drainage, 2) a long, comfortable handle for stirring and poaching, 3) a tablespoon-sized well to hold ingredients and 4) a fine point for precise, controlled plating. These features mean you won’t need three different tools taking up space on the countertop (or crowding your dishwasher). You can poach eggs, remove olives from brine, blanch greens and peas or fry shrimp and karaage with ease. Plus, the tablespoon-sized well can measure out smaller ingredients like capers and chickpeas. The spoon is designed with a flared lip, which helps scrape the corners of pots and pans (deglazing and scraping up fond is easy) or storage containers. The tumbled, unpolished look is inspired by tarnished steel utensils you’d find at vintage markets. Each spoon is stamped and etched, before it’s finished by hand on a lathe at Mr. Okada’s workshop in Niigata, Japan. The end of the handle has a notch, so you can identify it as a slotted spoon when stored in a drawer.
