These savory, meaty sardines hail from Portugal’s Algarve coast, a region known for its world-class seafood. Conservas Santos exclusively uses wild-caught Portuguese sardines that are carefully selected and prepared by skilled workers using manual (and painstaking) processing techniques, which preserves the fish’s natural flavor and texture. Each tin is packed by hand with silky olive oil and sweet red bell pepper purée. The result is a canned sardine that’s mellower, more complex and never too salty or too fishy. The sauce is good enough to eat on its own too. These sardines make it easy to whip up a quick, satisfying meal: Just crack open a can and serve them with cheese and crackers, bread and butter or a green salad with the oil reserved for a vinaigrette.
