In Westphalia, a historic region of northwest Germany, Schwerter Senfmühle has been making mustards the traditional way since 1923. This Whole Grain mustard is unlike any other we’ve tried: It’s packed with a mix of whole and ground mustard seeds, so you’ll get flavorful pops and bursts with each bite while retaining some smooth textures. That’s because Schwerter combines whole yellow and brown mustard seeds with more seeds that were cold-ground in two old stone mills; this process helps preserve the natural active ingredients and brings forward tangy-sweet notes with a punch of extra heat. The mustard’s flavor profile is similar to Schwerter’s Adrian mustard. Schwerter Senfmühle is one of four historic mustard mills still operating in Germany. They follow a secret recipe that’s been passed down since 1845.
