Antonio Mattei Panforte

Regular price $24.95

For centuries, the people of Siena, Italy, have served panforte or “strong bread”—a flat, chewy fruitcake made with nuts and candied fruit. This special version was whipped up by two renowned Tuscan bakeries: 160-year-old biscotti maker Antonio Mattei and third-generation panforte producer Marabissi. The recipe—inspired by Italy’s Renaissance spice trade—is sweet, warm and rich, thanks to spices including cinnamon, nutmeg, juniper, star anise, fennel pollen and cardamom. It’s studded with candied orange and citron peels and almonds, both to balance the cake’s richness and reveal a beautiful cross-section when sliced. The slightly sticky, toothsome texture makes it a great companion to coffee, tea or wine. Plus, each panforte is decoratively wrapped in Antonio Mattei’s signature blue packaging—perfect for holiday gatherings and gifting.
