These cotton-polyester placemats from Madrid-based Atenas Home are treated with two flexible layers of acrylic resin, which forms an invisible, protective layer around each fiber. The result? A timeless, luxe fabric that always repel liquids, grease and dirt. For daily cleaning, all they need is a quick wipe with a damp cloth; for a deeper clean, toss them in the washing machine with cold water and mild detergent. (As a bonus, Atenas’ fabrics are OEKO-TEX® certified, which means they’re free from harmful substances at all stages of production and safe for daily use by the entire family.) Wipe up fresh stains right away with a damp cloth. For greasy or oily spots, use a little bit of soapy water in addition to the damp cloth. To sanitize or disinfect the placemats, spray or wipe with a solution of water and bleach at 5% concentration, or 2 tablespoons of bleach per liter of water. Machine-washable in cool or cold water; do not use bleach or fabric softener. To reactivate the anti-stain treatment after washing, iron on the reverse (untreated) side with a low heat. Do not dry clean.
