Why are bluefin tuna the “king of fish?”
While most canned tuna comes from albacore, a small, abundant type of tuna, bluefin tuna are sought after due to their massive size—up to 1,500 pounds. The Atlantic bluefin caught by Gulf of Maine Conservas are the only tuna that forage in the cold waters of the Gulf of Maine. They eat a diet of herring and mackerel, which helps them take on fat and adds to their rich flavor and intense marbling.
