Made in Japan, this ceramic ramen bowl features a deep blue glaze and swimming koi fish. Circling the interior of the bowl is a large blue-and-white koi, which represents perseverance, strength and good fortune in Japanese culture and folklore. (According to some legends, koi that can swim upstream and conquer waterfalls turn into dragons, thus representing victory and overcoming challenges.) The exterior is wrapped in peonies, or “botan,” a flower that’s symbolized prosperity in decorative arts for centuries. The traditional pattern covers the bowl inside and out, and it’s set off by a clean white base. Due to the high-temperature glazing style, no two bowls are alike. With its 8.25-inch diameter, the bowl is perfect for ramen, noodles, rice dishes, soup and more. The bowl is safe to use in the microwave and dishwasher.
