Naturally dyed with specialty vegetables grown in Osaka, these towels are highly absorbent and lightweight. Here’s how: Japanese brand Shizuka collects veggie scraps—water eggplants, Senshu onions, basil and carrots—and extracts their deep colors to create dyes. The towels, woven with lightweight, durable and absorbent double-layered gauze, are methodically dyed to show off the rich pigments of each vegetable. No bleach, fluorescent brighteners or fabric softeners are ever used. The result is an eye-catching and sustainable kitchen towel we throw over our shoulders before busy days of prep, cleaning the kitchen or washing and drying dishes.

Between uses, let the towels air-dry and then hang on a towel hook. The natural dyes and gauze material ensure the towels won’t wrinkle or fade, even after multiple uses. And if they need a more thorough cleaning, simply machine-wash and tumble dry. Available in four colors: Eggplant (purple), Basil (green), Carrot (orange) and Onion (yellow).
