Mexican tasas de barro, or clay cups, were the inspiration behind Verve Culture’s hot chocolate mugs, traditionally used for enjoying drinking chocolate, a treat that dates to the Olmec, Mayan and Aztec civilizations.
While hot chocolate is enjoyed hot today, drinking chocolate, made up of ground cocoa seeds, water, cornmeal and chili peppers, was originally served cold. The mixture was poured back and forth between two cups until it became frothy.
