Neuhaus began working with chocolate in 1857 in Brussels. The company started as a pharmacy run by Jean Neuhaus, who covered medications in chocolate to make them more palatable to his customers. In 1912 his grandson suggested replacing the medication with sweet fillings and what is known as the “Belgian praline” was invented. Since then Neuhaus chocolates have always been made in Belgium.
