Made in Japan, this ceramic ramen bowl features a deep blue glaze and swimming red-orange koi fish. Known as “namako,” which translates to “sea cucumber” as the color resembles the skin of the marine animal, this traditional pottery style features mottled, iridescent indigo glazing. Circling the interior of the bowl are a handful of koi, which represent perseverance, strength and good fortune in Japanese culture and folklore. (According to some legends, koi that can swim upstream and conquer waterfalls turn into dragons, thus representing victory and overcoming challenges.) Due to the high-temperature glazing style, no two bowls are alike. With its 8.25-inch diameter, the bowl is perfect for ramen, noodles, rice dishes, soup and more. The bowl is safe to use in the microwave and dishwasher.
