Skeppshult’s handmade cast-iron waffle maker is our secret for perfectly crisp, golden waffles. The bottom, which is 0.2 inches of solid cast iron, will provide steady heat, while the precision-milled interior is seasoned with organic canola oil for a natural, nonstick release. Our waffles turned out crisp on the inside and perfectly fluffy on the inside, with an even golden-brown crust.

Why choose it over an electric waffle maker? We’re fans of the nearly indestructible cast-iron build—with care, the Skeppshult is a lifetime investment. As with any cast iron, the Skeppshult will get better and more nonstick with routine use and seasoning, rather than wear out and need replacing. And not only does it work on all types of cooktops, including gas, electric and induction, but the Skeppshult can even be taken on the road and used on a grill or campfire with no need for an outlet. It’s even slender enough to store with our pots and pans, rather than with bulky appliances.

To use, simply preheat the closed pan over medium heat on your stove. Use the stainless steel handles to open the pan, then brush the interior with oil and fill with the waffle batter of your choice. Close and cook for two minutes; flip and cook for another two, or until golden-brown. Remove waffle from hot pan with fork.

As with all cast-iron, rinse if needed, dry thoroughly and then oil after every use. Season regularly.
