Classic wood pepper mills might nail a certain aesthetic, but they fall short in functionality—and what good is a pepper mill that can’t even grind peppercorns? With the CrushGrind’s Paris Table Grinder, you get a best-in-class, bulletproof ceramic mechanism that grinds peppercorns, coarse salt and whole spices to your exact specifications. And it has the good looks of oiled walnut to boot. It couldn’t be easier to use: Remove the cap, pour in your peppercorns and start grinding. The grind coarseness is easily adjustable via the key at the bottom of the mill, so you can quickly dial in preferred textures. (Turn the key clockwise for a finer grind and counter-clockwise for a coarser one.) And like all of CrushGrind’s products, the ceramic parts are guaranteed for 25 years—so you know it’s built to last. Available in 22- and 29-inch sizes.

To fill the grinder, pull up the cap and pour peppercorns (or any other whole spices you like) into the reservoir. Adjusting the grind coarseness is as simple as turning the gray key at the bottom clockwise (for a finer grind) or counter-clockwise (for a coarser one).
Avoid using dried large leafy herbs in the pepper mill. Fibrous plant matter can compress against the ceramic burr, which prevents the herb from breaking down into fine particulate the way hard, dry, crystalline or seed-based spices do.
Protect the solid walnut body by keeping it dry and spot-cleaning with a soft cloth only as necessary. To clean the grinding mechanism, unscrew the adjustment wheel, remove the inner ceramic cone and use a dry, stiff brush to clean the ceramic parts. If necessary, immerse the ceramic cone in warm water to dissolve any remaining residue. Allow all ceramic parts to dry for at least 24 hours before reassembling. If you want to use your grinder for a different spice, you can quickly “clean” it by grinding some coarse salt. This will remove spice residues and clean the ceramic parts.
