This handwoven palm tortillero basket keeps tortillas (plus naan, pita and other flatbreads) warm, thanks to its double-walled construction and matching lid. Makaua is a Náhuatl word that translates to “from hand to hand”—a fitting name for the brand’s painstakingly handcrafted baskets. Every step of the production process is hands-on: Artisans source their own materials by hiking into the mountains of southern Mexico and harvesting mature palm leaves by hand; they then boil and sun-dry the leaves to prepare them for the weaving process. Next, they braid the palm leaves into long strips and sew them together using techniques passed down through generations. The final results blend traditional technique with a modern look, creating tablewares that stand out. You can also use it to serve pastries and rolls or store fresh fruit. Available in two naturally-dyed colors: Light Blue and Brown.
