Some of the best artisan cheese comes from our neighbors up north in Canada. That’s why we worked with 5th Quarter Butcher & Provisions to curate a limited discovery box of Quebec’s top fromage for Milk Streeters. After tasting a dozen styles of cheese, we picked our favorites and put them all in a bundle that showcases the Old World tradition and New World innovation of leading Quebecois dairies. This four-piece box includes a cheddar, blue, goat and farmstead cheese—they all stand out solo, but we made sure they complement one another on a charcuterie board. Crowned Quebec’s top cheese of 2025, Taliah is one of the best cheddars we’ve ever tried: It’s a clothbound cheddar made with sheep’s milk (this is rare, cheddar is usually cow’s milk) so it is more rich, creamy, sweet and nutty. (Taliah is our “goldilocks” cheese—it checks off every box.) From the same dairy is Bleu d’Elizabeth, a cow’s milk blue for skeptics and lovers alike. It lacks the overbearing peppery funk of stronger European blues, and it’s balanced with a spicy-savory flavor and buttery texture. Tangy and grassy with a hint of clean salinity, Grey Owl is the prettiest of the bunch. Aged for just two weeks, this goat cheese log is coated with a veil of slate-colored vegetable ash that wrinkles over time and contrasts its stark white interior. It’s not “barnyardy” like other farmstead chevres and the creamy texture melts in your mouth. Finally, Alfred le Fermier—one of our commerce editor’s favorite cheeses, period—is a supple washed rind cheese that resembles Alpine-style tommes. It has the chewy and caramelized qualities of Emmental or Gruyere, but does double duty in flavor; it’s deeply nutty (we find notes of creamy nut butters), savory and fruity.

Each Quebec Cheese Box comes with 6–7 ounces of Taliah, Bleu d’Elizabeth, Grey Owl and Alfred le Fermier cheeses. They arrived wrapped in specialized cheese paper; unpack the box immediately upon receipt and refrigerate. This is a limited seasonal drop, as we have only have 50 total boxes available. It’s open for orders through midnight Sunday, November 1, or earlier if we sell out. Expect boxes to arrive between November 5–6.

25 ounces (approximately 1.5 pounds) total: 6 ounces of Alfred le Fermier, Taliah and Bleu d’Elizabeth; 7 ounces of Grey Owl

Place of Origin: Quebec, Canada

A good rule of thumb: What grows together goes together. For the ultimate charcuterie board, pair any of the cheeses with Canadian (Northeastern USA works, too) apples and pears, cider or wine. To us, Taliah—which can be used like any aged cheddar in cooking applications—is best eaten unchanged. Pair it with buttery white or medium-bodied wine. We like Grey Owl with a handful of nuts and crackers. Add Bleu d’Elizabeth to salads (with apples or pears) or serve alongside a sweeter dessert wine. You can use Alfred like a Gruyere in omelets or tarts, but we find it’s tastiest on its own with seasonal fall fruit and a light-bodied red wine.

Refrigerate cheeses for up to 1–3 weeks, depending on the type. For the best tasting experience, let the cheeses come to room temperature (let sit on a counter for 1–2 hours) before eating. There are multiple ways to store your cheese: Wrapped in specialized cheese paper or bags, wrapped tight in cling wrap, placed in a resealable plastic bag or stored away in a Cheese Grotto. You may see mold form on the surface of your cheese over time—this is normal (as all cheeses contain molds and age in moldy environments) and you can simply scrape it off with a spoon or knife.
