Benton’s has been around since 1947, when a Tennessee dairy farmer started selling country hams from a painted block building. Current owner Allan Benton, who learned to cure and smoke pork from his grandparents in southwest Virginia, took over in 1973. Today, Allan and his son, Darrell, still run the operation from a small smokehouse in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains. Their decades-long craftsmanship has turned Benton’s into one of the most recognized names in American bacon and country hams.
