This isn’t really a knife block. It’s much better. Made from solid white oak inlaid with magnets, the Soft Touch Knife Block’s design is simple and compact, yet effective. Rather than those awkward slots that dull edges and only fit certain blades, it uses strong neodymium magnets to hold your most-used knives securely and within reach. Both faces of the block are magnetized so you can stow your knives in any orientation you like along the free edges. The open design accommodates blades of all shapes and sizes, from broad cleavers to the tiniest paring knives. Plus, the magnetic surfaces are finished with soft, cushy neoprene that actually protects your blades instead of beating or scuffing them up. It basically combines the convenience of a wall-mounted magnetic knife rack with a knife block’s easy setup and portability (while avoiding the drawbacks of either).
